ABOUT

Lily Eckenrode in San Francisco
Here I am in one of my favorite cities, San Francisco

Hello!

I’m Lily Eckenrode and a student at Drake University. I am a motivated sophomore studying graphic design and advertising. I’m eager to build experience in a creative field and begin tackling problems through visual solutions. Although I often find myself jumping from one school activity to another, I try to spend my Saturdays at the Des Moines Farmers Market or drinking coffee at a new cafe.

Back home in St. Louis, I grew up surrounded in a city with a great art culture and took frequent trips with my family to the St. Louis Art Museum. It was there where I knew I belonged in the creative field and since then, I’ve pushed myself to explore various creative outlets such as ceramics, printmaking and film photography.

Although it’s no secret that I am passionate about art, I also enjoy food, fashion and traveling. During my free time you can find me in the kitchen creating one-of-a-kind Eckenrode recipes, crocheting on a comfy couch or catching up on the Oscar nominated films of the year.

My Experiences

On the more professional side of things, I have spent the past 5 summers back in my hometown as a swim and dive instructor where I work with children from ages 4+ on water safety and swim/dive technique. Although by the end of each summer I almost turn into a fish, these experiences have helped me gain confidence in leadership roles and strengthened my intrapersonal skills. At Drake, I currently design magazine spreads for their satire magazine, DUiN which has pushed me creatively and refined my Adobe Creative Cloud skills, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. I also collaborate with 20 other students on Drake’s Student Activities Board (SAB) as a Graphic Design Co-Chair. In this position I design advertising for all SAB events across a range of media such as posters, banners, social media posts and even magnets. As one of the design co-chairs, I have learned the importance of having strong organizational and time management skills through balancing numerous projects with differing deadlines. Most recently, I have started a graphic design internship with the social media group, St. Louis Bucket List where I create Instagram content for their feed and story. Although I’ve dabbled in a variety of graphic design positions at Drake, I hope to find myself on the East Coast working for a lifestyle magazine as a designer and, eventually, a creative director once I graduate.
