Confessions of a Chipaholic
My whole life I have been a chip girl. Need an afternoon treat? Grab some Lays. Craving a midnight snack? Open a bag of Ruffles. Have a long car ride ahead? Let’s munch on some chips. From the time I was caught hiding in the pantry shoving Pringles into my mouth at five years-old, I’ve always been in the mood for a fresh bag of chips. With that being said, I feel as though I have authority to rank the top five best chips on the market.
5. Cheddar Cheese Pringles
Coming in 5th is the iconic Cheddar Cheese Pringles. The unique cylinder container adds a one-of-a-kind chip-eating experience that brings back childhood memories. The long ovular shape of the chip also allows the eater to fashion a duckbill by stacking two Pringles on top of each other. The chip has a bold flavor but they somehow always leave my mouth feeling like sandpaper. Overall though, this chip has a nostalgia factor that keeps it in my chip consuming rotation.
4. Garden Salsa SunChip
The thing I love about these chips is how they are advertised as a “healthier alternative”. I feel absolutely no shame when I demolish a family sized bag in one sitting and capitalism has me convinced that they truly are healthier. These chips have a warm undertone of spice that doesn’t overpower the garden vegetable essence. When eating these chips, your fingers will be coated in a light dusting of red powder which is a delicious bonus. Definitely keep this SunChip on your snacking radar.
3. Doritos: Spicy Sweet Chili
Coming in hot are the Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos, also known as “the purple Doritos” among my friends. These chips pack a punch and are loaded with flavor. When you first bite into the chip, you are hit with a warm barbecue taste accompanied by a sweet heat that makes you crave water 5 chips in. For those with a low spice tolerance, this chip might not be for you. However, this chip is hands down the best to munch on while having a movie night with friends.
2. Miss Vickie’s Jalapeño
If you’ve ever eaten at Subway, you know the Miss Vickie’s chip line. These kettle cooked chips come in four flavors but, the jalapeño chip never fails to satisfy. Note this chip does bring quite a bit of heat so have some water on stand by. This chip leaves you wanting more which makes it such an addicting flavor. Eat at your own risk but just know, your life will be substantially better with this chip in it.
1. Cape Cod Original
Coming in first place is the Cape Cod Original Kettle Cooked Chip. This chip satisfies every snack craving a person could possibly have. It has an addicting crunch, a buttery flavor that melts in your mouth with just the right amount of salt. They make for a great charcuterie board chip and will have guests asking where you got these chips. While you munch, imagine yourself sitting on a porch feeling the East Coast wind blow your hair. Although they are on the pricier side for a chip (almost $5), they are hands down the best chip out there.
